However, the legislator, Bala Nandgaonkar defended himself, saying he was only helping a Marathi person who is a distributor of the film.
Nandgaonkar had written a letter to two theatres in the metropolis seeking time slot for the Bhojpuri film.
The MNS lawmaker today convened a press conference and clarified his position. "The distributor of the film is a Marathi-speaking person. And I signed the letter to help him in his career. I was not aware that it was a Bhojpuri film and had a controversial name," Nandgaonkar maintained.
He said he signed the letter in haste. "I have not committed any crime. He (the distributor) apologised to me and also agreed to get the film's name changed."
A couple of days ago, suspected MNS workers had ransacked a cinema hall in adjoining Thane which was showing a Bhojpuri film.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena used the issue to hit out at Raj Thackeray-led MNS, accusing its rival party of double-speak, saying MNS leaders speak something in public and act contrary to it.
