Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the incident happened when the bus belonging to NTPC hit two students going to school on a bicycle this morning. Rajnish Kumar (9) died on the spot, while his elder brother Krishna Kumar (12) was seriously injured.
"The angry locals started rioting and set ablaze two buses belonging to NTPC. They then moved towards the guest house and set ablaze eight cars and SUVs, damaged a generator and other goods," Kushwaha said.
So far around 36 people have been arrested on rioting charges and senior officials belonging to the district administration are camping on the spot.
The body of the boy has been recovered from the mob and sent for postmortem. The SP said the police force will remain deployed on the spot till the situation becomes entirely normal.
