A mob today set ablaze a vehicle belonging to an aide of PDP MP Nazir Ahmad Laway in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, prompting police to fire tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
A group of 40 to 50 persons started pelting stones towards the venue of an event attended by Rajya Sabha member Laway at Bugam in Kulgam at 2.30 PM, a police officer said.
He said the MP, who was in the area for distributing sports kit among students of a local higher secondary school, was whisked away to safety by his security personnel.
"However, the miscreants set ablaze a vehicle belonging to PDP worker Mubarak Ahmad," the officer said.
He said police fired tear gas shells and used batons to chase away the protesters.
Earlier in the day, a police vehicle was set ablaze by a mob in Rohama area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
