A mob vandalised the premises of a government-run medical college here and forcibly made its principal to give a statement of resignation following the death of an unborn child, police said today.
A nine-month pregnant woman was admitted to the medical college for delivery around 5 PM yesterday. The doctors declared the unborn child dead around 10 PM, following which the group accompanying the woman vandalised the hospital premises alleging medical negligence.
More people joined the group and also vandalised the property outside the residences of four doctors, including a lady practitioner and the college's principal Pradeep Bharti, demanding that they submit their resignation over the incident, police officials said.
Under pressure, Bharti gave in to the demand of the agitated group and handed over to them an unofficial statement of resignation so as to make the crowd disperse, they added.
On the complaint of Bharti, a case was today registered against 30-40 unidentified persons for vandalism and forcibly making him resign.
Upset over the incident, Bharti went on leave from today.
He has sought enhanced security at the medical college.
