With Internet dominating governance, Maharashtra plans to start mobile training centres to impart computer skills to members of gram panchayats.
The state government would soon procure buses which will have facilities to impart computer skills to the members of gram panchayats, Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil said today.
He said the initial purchases of buses would be done using the Rs 2.5 crore Maharashtra won under 'Cumulative Devolution Panchayat Strengthening Index Award for the Financial Year 2012-13'.
Patil received the first prize on behalf of the state government from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the National Panchayati Raj Diwas function here.
Increasingly, computers are being used in governance and gram panchayat members have to deal with complicated laws and various aspects in implementation of government schemes, he said.
Patil said the state government was also considering making some minimum educational qualification mandatory for people contesting panchayat elections.
