"On Tuesday morning when the usual inspection of the barracks was being carried out, a member of the jail staff found the mobile handset concealed in the barrack toilet," constable A J Chavan of Bazarpeth police station said.
The phone did not have a SIM card and its battery was also separately buried in the ground, he added.
According to Chavan, an offence has been registered against an unidentified person in this regard and police are trying to find out who, from among the prison inmates, had hidden the phone.
