The lawyer, who represented a Mumbai-based model in a case of her alleged sexual assault against Deputy Inspector General of Police Sunil Paraskar, told the court here today, that she would seek cancellation of pre-arrest bail granted to the senior police officer after he allegedly threatened her through another person.
"Tomorrow, I will move an application seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Paraskar because on August 19, a man visited me and initially offered money on behalf of Paraskar. Later, he threatened me," the model's advocate Chitra Salunke told the court today, which was hearing a complaint of perjury made by the model, alleging that Paraskar had made a wrong statement in the court about her.
Salunke told reporters that on August 19, a man called her up, took her appointment and met her in her suburban Chembur office.
"After he came in, he began talking about Paraskar's case. I have recorded his conversation and there are also closed circuit television (CCTV) images," Salunke said.
Salunke said that, initially, he told her that Paraskar had offered her Rs 10 lakh for not appearing in the case on behalf of the model. Later, the man threatened her.
Allegedly, he said that Rs 10 lakh is an "initial offer", from Paraskar which could be "raised", Salunke said, adding that she went to the local police station and registered a case of intimidation against the man.
However, Paraskar's lawyer Rizwan Merchant denied the allegations against his client and termed them "senseless".
"Why would Paraskar threaten somebody after anticipatory bail has been granted? It is an attempt to cancel his bail and take him into custody," Merchant told PTI.
