The moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today welcomed the proposed meeting between Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan in New York, saying the "resumption of dialogue is in the interest of the people of the sub-continent".
"The proposed meeting between Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York is a welcome step," the separatist amalgam said in a statement here.
Mirwaiz said the decision to resume the dialogue despite tremendous hardship and intense pressure would be in the larger interest of the people of the sub-continent and expressed hope that the process would continue.
"It has been Hurriyat's policy that meaningful and result-oriented dialogue is the only way forward for resolution of the Kashmir issue. Therefore, we expect that the proposed meeting will pave the way for resolution of all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan, including Kashmir," the statement reads.
