Launching a personal attack on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Gujarat Congress today likened him to the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
"Modi's behaviour is against the Indian culture. He behaves like sultans. Aurangzeb had imprisoned his father to capture power. In the same way, he behaves with his senior party leaders," Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Arjun Modhvadia said here.
"He (Modi) has turned party veteran L K Advani helpless and compelled him to contest the Lok Sabha poll from Gandhinagar seat and not from Bhopal. Senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi was reluctant to leave his Varanasi seat, but he pushed him to Kanpur," Modhvadia said.
"Jaswant Singh...Such a giant leader...You did not give him a party-ticket...There are several examples like this," he said, adding, "This kind of behaviour does not suit a politician."
Responding to Modi's comment on the Congress replacing Dalit leader Narendra Rawat, who was the consensus candidate elected through primary, with Madhusudan Mistry for the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, Modhvadia said, "He (Modi) had removed senior leader Keshubhai Patel from the party."
"Modi has sacked senior leaders like Kashiram Rana, Suresh Mehta and A K Patel from the party. He pretended of being hospitalised and forced the party to cut late MLA Haren Pandya's ticket in 2002 elections. Pandya was killed, his family-members are saying that Narendra Modi killed him," the state Congress leader said.
"He made controversial CD of (former BJP leader) Sanjay Joshi and got him expelled from the party. The same thing he is doing with the national leaders," Modhvadia alleged.
