Former BJP national general secretary Sanjay Joshi, considered a bete noire of Prime Minister Narendra Modi since his days as Gujarat chief minister, today endorsed the demonetisation move, saying it is a right step to curb menace of black money.
Joshi, sidelined in the BJP for last many years, also expressed his displeasure about posters demanding his return to active politics, apparently put up by his supporters in the city recently.
"This country has been suffering due to corruption, black money, naxalism, terrorism and fake currency notes since last 15-odd years. However, Congress never did anything to curb this menace. I believe that demonetisation is the right decision taken by the BJP government at the right time," Joshi told reporters without naming Modi.
The PM had announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes on November 8 as a measure to eradicate black money from country.
Joshi was visiting 'Ayush India Expo-2016', an exhibition of ayurvedic and natural products here.
Commenting on the posters which keep surfacing intermittently across Gujarat demanding his return to active politics, Joshi, a full-time RSS pracharak, said such "process" is wrong.
"I am very much in the BJP as a worker. The process of putting my posters is wrong," he said.
Interestingly, the organisers of the exhibition have put Joshi's image alongside Modi's photo on a large banner mentioning details about the event, inside the expo venue.
