Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma today said a "misplaced euphoria" was being created by the Narendra Modi government regarding India's prospects of getting a permanent seat in the expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Attacking the NDA government's foreign policy, Sharma told reporters here, "A misplaced euphoria is being created on India's prospects of getting a permanent member seat in the UNSC when the country has actually lost support of an ally such as Russia which had earlier backed India's bid."
The former UPA minister alleged that Prime Minster Modi is "frivolous in his approach towards the country's foreign policy" and was "misleading" the country.
Sharma also accused Modi of "mixing official visits with unofficial NRI events" abroad and asked "who is spending money on these events?"
He ruled out Congress support for convening a special Parliament session to pass the proposed GST legislation, stating that the issue can be addressed in a regular session as per democratic norms.
"Prime Minister Modi has an authoritarian mindset and a confrontationist attitude which he displays in humiliating the Opposition during his tours abroad," Sharma said.
Asked about the reported remarks by BJP spokesperson M J Akbar that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was a "spoiled child", Sharma said "Akbar seems to have lost his mental balance and his family members should be worried about it".
