Modi leaves for Switzerland

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for Switzerland after finishing his engagements in Qatar, where he held wide-ranging talks with the leadership of the gas-rich Gulf nation to curb hawala and terror financing.

"Ma'a Salama Qatar! After a productive visit, PM @narendramodi departs for Geneva, the third leg of his journey," External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swaroop tweeted.

"My gratitude to the people and Government of Qatar for their exceptional warmth & hospitality during this visit: PM @narendramodi," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.

During his two-day stay in Qatar, the two countries agreed to share intelligence to combat 'hawala' transactions and terror financing.

The two countries signed seven agreements and decided to move beyond trading relationship -- to strategic investments.

The prime minister also addressed the Indian diaspora.

The Indian diaspora of over 6,30,000 Indians comprise the largest expatriate community in Qatar and are engaged in a wide spectrum of professions, including medicine; engineering; education, finance; banking; business; media and labour.

From Doha, Modi heads to Switzerland on his way to the US and Mexico.
