Against the backdrop of its defeat in Bihar Assembly elections and more disgruntled voices emerging from inside the party, a BJP MLA from Gujarat today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the "principal architect" of the party's success over the past few years.
"In every election, Modi is the tallest leader of BJP. He is the principle architect of the BJP's success over the past few years," Madhu Srivastav, who represents the Waghodiya Assembly constituency in the district, said.
"It was because of Modi why the party had captured power at the Centre in 2014 elections. Under his leadership, BJP won Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir," he said here.
"Without his leadership in the party, things would have been very difficult. He remains the most popular leader in the country today. Just because we have lost the Assembly election does not mean our appeal has diminished," he claimed.
Srivastav further said, "Thousands of people had turned up to attend 31 rallies in Bihar which was addressed by Modi. This also proves that Modi remains a popular leader."
"It was the responsibilities of every BJP leader and worker to have converted them (people who attended the rallies) into votes.

"Though the Grand Alliance of RJD, JDU and Congress has secured thumping majority in Bihar, only time will say how long it will survive because in the past RJD had fought against JDU," the five-time MLA added.
He also said the outcome of the Bihar poll wouldn't have any impact on the local bodies poll in the state to be held on November 22 and 26.
In Bihar, the BJP-led grouping were trounced by the Grand Alliance which secured 178 seats in the 243 member house.
