Modi, Patnaik greet people of Odisha on Maha Vishuba Sankranti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion of Maha Vishuba Sankranti that marks the beginning of the Odia New Year.

"Wishing the vibrant Odia community a Happy New Year!" Modi tweeted.

"A new year, new aspirations and new hope! This Maha Vishuba Sankranti, may all your wishes come true. Praying for everyone's well-being and happiness," the prime minister said.

"I extend my greetings and best wishes on Maha Vishuba Sankranti and Odia New Year. Let the new year be a year of happiness and prosperity for all of us with the blessings of Lord Jagannath," Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted.

Patnaik also paid tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution, B R Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.

"Humble tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. #BRAmbedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution and champion of #SocialJustice on his birth anniversary," he said in another tweeted.

BJP leader and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the party's national vice-president Baijayant Panda also wished the people of the state on the occasion of Maha Vishuba Sankranti and the Odia New Year.

Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion by creating a sand art on Puri beach.
