"We must give importance to innovation. Why cannot we manufacture the best equipment in the health sector and export it?" Modi asked, addressing the eighth Global Healthcare Summit at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) here.
The summit has been organised by the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) in collaboration with Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Ministry of Health and the Gujarat government.
Modi said when he took over as the Chief Minister in 2001, the state's healthcare budget was around Rs 800 crore, but now that has increased to around Rs 5,500 crore. Yet, a lot needs to be done, he added.
