Mohali to have world class hockey stadium

This was disclosed by Punjab PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon while reviewing the status of construction work along with officials.

He said the stadium will have world class infrastructure in 12 acres of land. He said that the stadium will have a capacity of 50,000 spectators besides a reserved sitting capacity of 200 VVIPs.

Answering queries of mediapersons, Dhillon said that the world-class stadium will be equipped with the best sports infrastructure including hi-tech changing room, first aid room, dope testing laboratory, restaurant, gym, canteen, fully computerised office and VVIP and VIP galleries.

He said that special arrangements have also been made for power services in the stadium.

Responding to a query, the minister said that the SAD-BJP Government was fully dedicated to encourage the youth towards sports by providing them best sports infrastructure, facilities and jobs in various departments.

He said that under the dynamic leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Punjab government has chalked out a special plan to motivate children towards sports from their school days.

He said that it was the result of SAD-BJP Government's efforts that kabaddi has been recognised at international level.

Dhillon said that on the pattern of Mohali, the Punjab Government would also construct world class hockey stadiums at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Faridkot and Bathinda.

He said that nine multipurpose floodlit stadiums were also under construction in the state.
