"The high-profile goodwill football game between Mohan Bagan, Kolkata and J&K Football XI will be played in GGM Science College here tomorrow", Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib told reporters here today.
The tournament is being organised by the J&K Sports Council and J&K Football Association, Chib said adding that selected players of Jammu Premier League (JPL) and Kashmir Premier League (KPL) are also being trained in known institutes of Chennai and New Delhi as part of the government's endeavour to promote talent.
The government's effot to organise such events will certainly bring about a big change in the sports profile of the state, which does not lack in talent, he said adding that there is a need to channelise their aptitude in a cohesive manner.
About the objective of holding such national level competitive games, the minister said it is a step forward to explore the state's sports potential.
The process will continue and efforts would be made to expose the young players to such an environment wherein they can benefit from the experienced and acclaimed players of the country, he added.
He said the government is endeavouring to identify the hidden talent across the state, especially in remote and far-off areas with an avowed objective of polishing their skills so that they can try their luck in various national level events. (More)
