"Enough is enough, we tried our best to help the club come out of the rut but could not help. As a last measure, we're stepping down with immediate effect," Mitra told PTI after he along with the president and club finance secretary Debasish Dutta tendered their resignation.
The resignation of the trio, who have been managing the show for more than two decades (SINCE 1990), came moments after the club were shown the door after a 4-1rout against Salgaocar in the ongoing Federation Cup in Goa.
However this is seen as a "farce" by the Maidan insiders as the club election is round the corner and it's very likely that the trio would make a come back.
"The farce is all about to avoid undue criticism and fingers pointed towards them ahead of the elections," a club insider said.
