About 80 monkeys suddenly appeared in a tea estate in a village, and started climbing on about 500 pear-trees and either threw or ate the fruits, much to the dismay and surprise of growers.
"This is the first time I am witnessing the sudden attack of monkeys, that too in this large number," a farm labourer said. Nobody knew from where the monkeys came and later disappeared, he said.
According to an estimate a normal tree bore 250 to 300 kgs of pear, which fetched Rs.100 per kg, resulting in huge loss to the growers.
