Heavy monsoon rains lashed the two states besides Union Territory Chandigarh since yesterday, a MeT official said here.
He said that conditions were favourable for further advancement of the monsoons into the remaining parts of the two agrarian states.
The monsoon had arrived in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh within its usual date of arrival between June 29 to July 1, the official said.
Chandigarh was drenched by heavy rains of 118.5 mm providing the much-needed respite to the people from hot and humid conditions that had been prevailing here and in Punjab and Haryana for the past six weeks.
In Punjab, Ludhiana (51 mm), Patiala (17.6 mm), Madhopur (67 mm), Pathankot (52 mm), Shahpur Kandi (95 mm), Phagwara (44 mm), Ropar and Jalandhar were among other places to be lashed by heavy rains.
Panchkula (55 mm), Kalka (40 mm), Karnal (2.8 mm), Narnaul (36 mm), Rohtak (12.2 mm), Ambala (64.2 mm), Kurukshetra and Gurgaon in Haryana received moderate to heavy showers.

The rain brought smiles on the faces of farmers as it will boost and benefit paddy transplantation, according to agricultural experts.
The rain is also expected to ease the power situation as hot weather had fuelled high demand leading to repeated scheduled and unscheduled power cuts.
