Haryana government today said, the monthly wheat offtake under the National Food Security scheme would increase substantially.
From an average of 43,000 metric tonne, the monthly offtake of wheat would increase to 67,000 metric tonne under the national scheme, state food and supply minister, Mahender Pratap Singh said in the state Assembly here.
Earlier 54.41 lakh beneficiaries were covered under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in Haryana, he said.
Now, over 72 lakh more beneficiaries will be covered in the state who will receive foodgrains as per entitlements, the minister said, replying to a Calling Attention Notice during the third day of the ongoing monsoon session.
The new scheme classifies eligible households (beneficiaries) into two categories--Antodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households and Priority households and the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme in Haryana is 126.49 lakh, out of which 90.28 lakh are in rural areas and 36.21 lakh in urban areas, Singh said.
Pregnant women and lactating mothers would be entitled to free meals during pregnancy and six months after child birth, through local Anganwadi centres and maternity benefit of not less than Rs 6,000, he said.
The minister said, state government has formulated its own scheme called the Dal-Roti scheme from its resources, which envisages distribution of 2.5 kg of pulses per month to AAY households, Central Below Poverty Line (CBPL) and State Below Poverty Line (SBPL) households at highly subsidised rate of Rs 20 per kg in addition to other entitlements.
In rural areas, beneficiaries would include AAY, CBPL and SBPL households, all homeless units, households where head of the family is a disabled person, all households headed by a widow or single unmarried woman (even separated or deserted), households of landless agricultural labourers, households of small and marginal farmers (owning land up to 5 acres of any type), Singh said.
