"New Delhi should offer a ceasefire to the United Jehad Council (UJC) on the pattern of the one in Nagaland," Langate MLA Engineer Rasheed, said at a press conference here.
Rasheed said that the ceasefire with UJC, an amalgam of militant outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir, would help bring peace to the state.
"If the government of India can have a ceasefire with the militants in Nagaland, why can't it have it here with UJC?" Rasheed said.
"When the US can talk to Taliban, why can't Delhi talk to UJC? If it (the Centre) is a real well-wisher of the people of Kashmir, then they should do it (announce a ceasefire)," he added.
He said that in case the UJC failed to respond positively to the move, then, "we will know that they are not serious (about bringing peace to the state)".
