More than 1.1 lakh prohibition offenders arrested in 2014

As many as 1.12 lakh prohibition offenders had been arrested in 2014 in Tamil Nadu, Additional Director General of Police (Prohibition wing) Gandhirajan told newsmen here today.
Most of the offenders smuggled the liquor, arrack and spirit from Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and other states. The spirit, arrack and foreign liquor worth Rs 10.87 crore had been seized in 2014.
He said from this year, the local police, prohibition wing police and prohibition offence intelligence wing were jointly holding raids against prohibition offences.
He said in this year 20068 cases had been filed so far and 20220 criminals including, 1692, women had been arrested. He said 45534 litres of arrack from Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh had been destroyed. Besides 17551 litres of spirit had been seized. Probhibition offences had come down in the state, he claimed.
He warned that Goondas Act would be charged against prohibition offenders.
