More than 100 to take part in 3rd, 4th Indian GP Athletics

More than 100 athletes, including some national campers, and their counterparts from Maldives and Sri Lanka will take part in the final qualification events for the Rio Olympic Games at the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix to be held here tomorrow and July 11 here.
A total of 23 events -- 13 for men and 10 for women -- will feature in both the Grand Prix events being held at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium.
The organisers of Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon have been roped in sponsors.
Athletics Federation of India Secretary C K Valson said, "We are extremely delighted that 24 athletes have already qualified for Rio Olympic Games in individual events and the women's 4x400m relay team is ranked world No. 13 and fulfils the qualification criteria."
Valson also thanked Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for extending their support for the conduct of the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix.
Nagaraj Adiga, MD, NEB Sports, the organisers of the Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon said, "We are committed to the development of Indian athletics and extremely delighted to be part of the 3rd and 4th Indian Grand Prix and thankful to the AFI for this opportunity to be part of the national effort to support our athletes for Rio.
