Phase three of the project will begin soon, Chairman of the Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority, Sriram Vedire, said.
In phase two, which started in 2016, 4,213 villages of 295 panchayat samitis were selected and most of the works have been completed, he said.
"It is a one-of-its-kind project in the world. The MJSY uses advanced technology and people's participation in water conservation works. Therefore, in a short span we are on the path to achieve PM Narendra Modi's dream to double farmers income by 2022," he said.
There has been a 56 per cent decline in water supply through tankers in the summer in the selected villages because of water conservation, the chairman said.
He said open wells are being developed in 1,500 villages so that locals get potable water near their habitat.
