Motion to suspend members on Telangana triggers ruckus in LS

The Lok Sabha today witnessed high drama as an exasperated government brought a motion to suspend 10 members from Andhra Pradesh, including six from Congress, for continued protests over Telangana issue, but the move was scuttled by an aggressive and united opposition.
The House saw agitated members of TDP and Congress, who were to be suspended, even pulling the microphones on the Speaker's podium. One of them took out a whip from his pocket and was about to hit himself before it was snatched from him by his party colleagues.
Hell broke loose as soon as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath moved a motion to suspend six Congress and four TDP members for "disturbing the proceedings regularly" since the beginning of the Monsoon session from August 5.

In the motion, the minister said the 10 members who "behaved in a manner unbecoming of MPs by continuously disturbing the proceedings of the House be suspended from services of the House for the remainder of the session".
Moving the motion against the agitating members from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, Nath said, "Unfortunately the House has not been able to function since the beginning of this session in light of the protests by these members."
The members of Congress and TDP from these regions have been protesting in Parliament against the decision to carve out Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.

Nath brought the motion as TDP members were in the Well, repeating the scenes witnessed ever since the session began.
More than a year back, eight pro-Telangana Congress members had been suspended from the House for similar reasons.
As soon as Nath brought the motion today, members of almost the entire opposition were on their feet, vociferously protesting the move, with BJP in the forefront.
