The victim, identified as Dharampal, was posted at Jaffrabad police station a month ago and deputed as beat constable of Maujpur area.
Today, he had gone to a shop for arms verification. At around 12.30 PM, when he came out and sat on his motorcycle, two motorcycle-borne assailants, who were allegedly waiting there, first attacked him with a knife, police said, adding he sustained injuries in his waist and then assailants shot at him twice from close range.
Someone made a PCR call following which a police team rushed to the spot and rushed him to GTB hospital where he was declared brought dead.
"It seems to be a case of personal enmity as the assailants were waiting for him but we are probing the case from all possible angles. We have got some CCTV footage from the nearby area but the assailants could not be identified as they were wearing helmets," the official said.
