The incident took place last night when Sanjay, a resident of Gautam Puri Dadri, was returning from Ghaziabad, they said.
On the way, he had an argument with six men in car, who accused him of not giving way to their vehicle despite several horns.
During the argument, one of the six men shot at Sanjay and all of them fled the scene, police said.
Sanjay, a mechanic, has been admitted to hospital and his condition was stable by late evening today, police said.
