The MoU was signed yesterday by Vice Chancellor Somnath Dasgupta and Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Avida Islam in Silchar.
The Assam University is the first varsity from northeast India and among the very few Indian institutions to initiate academic and cultural collaboration with Bangladesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Islam said the project includes exchange of teachers and scholars, intellectuals and cultural personalities and teams between the two countries to strengthen the areas of collaboration and friendship.
It would facilitate introduction of courses in the Universities of Bangladesh on Bengali language and literature in India with special reference to the linguistic and literary activities in North-East India and Barak Valley, in particular, among others, he said.
