The team of All India Sainik Schools Mountaineering Expedition comprised 34 students from 15 Sainik Schools and five staff members.
The 25-day expedition to the peak in Manali area, which stands at 6,001 metres above the sea level, will be led by J S Gulia, an ace mountaineer who would be assisted by Anurag Semwal.
On the occasion, Lt Col V K S Rawat, Principal Sainik School apprised the Governor that ascent to the peak would be attempted from a new route in alpine style.
In all two camps will be set up before the final assault from the new gulley route, he said.
Rawat also informed the Governor that such an expedition would also inculcate the spirit of leadership in students and bring about an awareness of keeping mountains clean.
He also apprised the Governor of various activities that formed an integral part of the training imparted to students at school.
