Mozambique beat Sri Lanka to enter football final

Mozambique today beat Sri Lanka by a solitary goal in extra time to enter the final of the 3rd edition of the Lusofonia Games 2014, played at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, near here today.
Though Mozambique failed to impress in the first half it came back strongly in the latter part of the second half and broke the deadlock in the 2nd minute of the extra time which they dominated.
Sri Lanka, who put up a disciplined performance in the first half and did not allow their rival to penetrate into the box, had opportunity to equalise when Bernardino Jose was sent off by the referee for receiving double booking, held on the lead till the end.
Mozambique faced stiff resistance from Lankans with their midfield giving good account of themselves and did not allow Mozambique the space to penetrate.
Lankan had the first clear chance to surge ahead when Hondamunige De Silva put Landao Ishan through into the box but the latter with only keeper Cesar at his mercy, shot straight into the hands of the latter.
Mozambique, who came into their own in the latter part of the first half, too had a chance to take the lead but Bernardino Jose' powerful header off a flag kick taken by Luis Miquissone was saved by Lankan keeper Weerasinghe.
Mozambique put up improved performance in the second and dictated terms in the latter part of the match and came with repeated forays with rival keeper making a fine save when he leapt high to put out Edmilson Dove left-footer in the 75th minute.

A few minutes latter, Luis Miquissone missed open chance to score off Alexandre Guambe cross.
However, Luis made amends in the 2nd minute of the extra time when he found the net off Norberto Norberto cross to seal Sri lanka's fate.
Mozambique now meet the winner's of tomorrow semi-finals between Goa(India) and Macau in the finals which is slated on 29th January, 2014.
