Sanjay Singh, brother-in-law of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today refuted the charges of his involvement in illegal sand mining levelled by an RTI activist and sought an apology from him for the "baseless" allegations.
"I have a relationship with Shivraj Singh Chouhan and not with his chair. I don't interfere in Chief Minister's work. I lead my life with my own hard work," said Singh, resident of Gondia in Maharashtra, at a press conference here.
Singh's lawyer Rajesh Bindra said he would be sending a legal notice to RTI activist Anand Rai, demanding public apology within 15 days. If he does not apologise, criminal and civil suits for defamation will be filed against Rai, Bindra said.
Rai had alleged that Singh owned huge properties in Mumbai, invested in films, arranged for tax relief for films and was involved in illegal sand mining.
When contacted, Rai said he stood by what he had said on a news channel.
