The Congress in Madhya Pradesh Monday lodged a complaint with the election commission demanding suspension of "NaMo" TV channel telecast, which it said will be airing speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in violation of the model code in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls.

State Congress spokesman Neelabh Shukla said "NaMo" television channel would be telecasting speeches of the PM, his rallies, besides the statements and programmes favouring the BJP.

"NaMo is the abbreviation for Narendra Modi. With general elections round the corner, the BJP has started this channel which amounts to violation of the model code of conduct. We demand that the election commission immediately stops broadcasting on the channel," Shukla told reporters here.

He said the channel would air Modi's speeches, rallies, and statements and programmes favouring the BJP.

"We want the Election Commission to stop the telecast of the television channel immediately for holding elections in free and fair manner," Shukla said, adding that the Congress has written to the office of the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

Meanwhile, Indore district administration has taken a cognisance of certain reports in circulation on the social media about the NaMo television channel, and has sought direction from the Election Commission.

Returning Officer and district Collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav said, "According to reports that have appeared in some WhatsApp groups, political content in favour of a party is appearing on a channel. We have informed the EC about it. Appropriate steps will be taken on directions of the EC".
