The Madhya Pradesh High Court today slapped a contempt notice on state chief secretary (CS) Anthony JC DeSa for not complying with its earlier order directing the authorities to correct mistakes in the SC/ST list.
A division bench, comprising Justices Rajendra Menon and Keshav Kumar Trivedi, served notices returnable in four weeks on the CS and others stating that why contempt proceedings should not be launched against them.
In his plea, petitioner Narendra Kumar, an advocate, said that though the HC had on April 21, 2015 directed the government to make correction in its wrongly-translated Hindi version of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes list of 31.01.1978 which is still in vogue, nothing has happened.
The petitioner said the incorrectly-translated and published MP's General Administration Department (GAD) list of SC/ST has resulted in cancellation of genuine caste certificates issued by competent authorities in MP.
This has caused loss of jobs and prosecution of reserved category people in large numbers in the state, he argued.
He said that Hindi version of 1976 SC/ST list was published in the Extraordinary Gazette of Government of India, New Delhi, on 29.11.1979.
But MP GAD in a hurry circulated its own wrongly translated list of SC/ST on 31.01.1978, he contended.
