MP gets India's first electronic manufacturing clusters

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today laid the foundation stones of first two electronic manufacturing clusters in Madhya Pradesh that jointly have potential to generate about 17,500 jobs.
"The two Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) in the state of Madhya Pradesh are the first Greenfield EMCs in the country to get final approval and sanction of grants from the Government of India," an official statement said.
The greenfield Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) are located at Purva in Jabalpur and Badwai in Bhopal.
The statement said that EMC located at Purva "will generate around 1,400 direct employment opportunities and around 4,000 indirect employment opportunities."
It added that EMC in Bhopal will be operational in two years' time and is expected to "generate around 3,000 direct employment opportunities and around 9,000 indirect employment opportunities."
The EMC in Bhopal will mainly focus on Telecom and IT hardware product manufacturing.

"Major ESDM manufacturing units like Bharat Business Channel (Videocon Group), for manufacturing of set Top Boxes. Other units like EVDAT Software Technologies and Heaven Techno System have already shown interest and given commitments of setting up of manufacturing facilities in this EMC," the statement said.
The EMC at Purva, which is spread over 40 acres, is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 38 crore out of which the Centre is providing a grant of Rs 17.75 crore.
Greenfield EMC at Badwai, Bhopal is spread over an area of 50 acres and is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 47 crore out of which central government is providing a grant of Rs 21 crore.
Under the National Policy on Electronics, government has set a target to set-up 200 EMC. Government has agreed to provide financial support of up to Rs 50 crore under the policy.
