A police inspector today shot his senior officer dead with his revolver in the latter's office at Niwadi Road in Tikamgarh district before killing himself with the same weapon, a senior police official said.
Dismissing the earlier reports that Prithvipur police station in-charge Pramod Chaturvedi and sub-divisional officer of police (SDPO) K C Malik killed each other using their service revolvers, Pankaj Shrivastava, IG (Sagar Range) told reporters that Chaturvedi committed suicide after shooting dead Malik.
"The Niwadi Road SDOP was sitting in his office in the afternoon when Chaturvedi came to his chamber to meet him. They had a dispute over some official matter following which Chaturvedi got so enraged that he fired at Malik," Shrivastava said, adding that the bullet hit SDOP's forehead.
The IG said Chaturvedi got panicked and shot himself by turning the revolver to his temple at the same spot. "Both died instantly," he added.
The IG said reports claiming that both the officials shot each other dead were not correct.
The duo were taken to Prithvipur community health centre where doctors declared them as brought dead, he said.
When asked about the likely trigger behind the incident, Shrivastava said, "Tension was brewing between the two for quite some time over an official matter in which Malik had made some adverse comment against Chaturvedi which led to an heated argument between them."
Malik was posted with Prithvipur police station in the district only recently.
