cook, who had alleged that some unidentified persons asked him to mix poison in the lawmaker's food, today allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a running train near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, police said.
"The incident happened when the cook, Rupendra, was being taken to Raipur by Jan Shatabdi Express under police escort, to help make sketches of the unidentified accused," Janjgir- Chamapa SP Sheikh Arif Hussain told PTI.
"Rupendra asked for the permission to go to the washroom and when he was being taken there, he suddenly jumped off near Nipania railway station," he said.
Rupendra (24) had alleged last week that unidentified persons approached him and asked him to mix some tablets in Patle's food, promising him money in return.
Patle, who represents Janjgir-Chamapa in the Parliament, did not rule out foul play in Rupendra's suicide and blamed police for laxity.
"Police did not react properly, otherwise the incident could have been prevented," said Patle.
