Madhya Pradesh is a popular holiday destination, its tourism board has recently crossed one million followers on Facebook, an official said here today.
Yuvraj Padole, deputy director of events and marketing, MP Tourism Board, said that the state offers a wide array of attractions - from wildlife to pilgrimage and heritage to leisure.
"Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board's Facebook page has crossed one million followers. It is now one of the most popular and active tourism organisations in the country," Padole said at a fair here.
The tourism fair, which was inaugurated today by Bangladesh Minister Shahjahan Kamal, will see the participation of 13 countries and 28 Indian states over the next three days.
Padole said that Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest area in the country, with nine national parks and 25 wildlife sanctuaries.
The state also boasts of three UNESCO world heritage sites at Khajuraho, Bhimbetka and Sanchi Stupa - major attractions for both domestic and foreign travellers, Padole said.
"Madhya Pradesh also gives us religious reasons to plan a trip. It has two Jyotirlinga shrines, Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar," he said.
