The aspiring candidates have been asked to submit their applications in the party office, a release issued by spokesman Sachin Sawant said today.
Eleven members of the Legislative Council are retiring on July 27. Out of them, four are from the Congress -- including state unit chief Manikrao Thakre, Ulhas Pawar and Rajan Teli, close aides of former chief ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Narayan Rane respectively, and S Q Zama.
Congress has 82 MLAs in the 288 member Legislative Assembly. There is one nominated member.
The other members retiring are -- former speaker Arun Guajrathi and Usha Darade (NCP), Pasha Patel and Keshavrao Mankar (BJP), Parshuram Uparkar (Shiv Sena), Pritam Shevgaonkar (RPI) and Jayant Patil (PWP).
The election scheduled is yet to be announced.
