The recommendation to pay this sum to the four students was given by MPHRC's Acting Chairman Justice A K Saxena yesterday following a complaint in this regard, official sources said today.
The class 12th students were punished by teacher Razia Bano for not doing their homework during which they were not even allowed to drink water or answer to nature's call. The girls had to be admitted to a hospital because of this.
The MPHRC recommended to give training in child psychology to teachers so that they are sensitive to the needs of their pupils.
The Commission has issued a showcause notice to the woman teacher under section 16 of the MPHRC Act and observed that even today the teachers believed in the old method of giving homework to students and it appears that they have been unable to adapt to modern day methods.
The Acting Chairman also wrote that there was a time when teachers were treated as their ideals by students but this is gradually fading from the society.
