MPs and experts to to hold parleys on drought and other issues

Even as water crisis deepens in parts of the country, Parliamentarians and experts will hold parleys on drought and related agrarian issues, drinking water management and interlinking of rivers during the two-day workshop beginning here tomorrow .
The workshop is being organised under the auspices of Speaker's Research Initiative (SRI) - an endeavour of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, an official statement said.
"Severe scarcity of drinking water in various parts of the country has been engaging the attention of the policymakers and lawmakers for quite some time.
"... As such, the lawmakers, all over the country, media and other stakeholders have a key role to play in finding solutions to these vexed problems," the statement reads.
Eminent experts including ex-Agriculture Research and Education Department secretary Mangala Rai, National Water Development Agency director general S Masood Hussain, South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People co-coordinator Himanshu Thakkar, Gandhi Peace Foundation's Anupam Mishra and Sopan Joshi, Farhad Contractor of an ecological conservation group Sambhav and IPE Global's Indira Khurana will conduct the workshop.
