The conference is first of its kind in the history of 64-year-old faculty, and is probably the first by its nature on a topical issue in Gujarat.
It is also for the first time in the history of the faculty that a member of teaching community from neighbouring Pakistan is attending the event in India.
"Sonia Omer from the social work department of University of Punjab, Lahore, has confirmed her participation via e-mail", said M N Parmar, Dean, FSW, Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU).
Delegates from countries like US, UK, Australia, and Sri Lanka, besides around 350 delegates form various states and UTs in India will attend the conference.

"The programme is held in collaboration with the Gender Resource Centre, Government of Gujarat, Women's Research Centre, MSU and the College of Social Work, University of South Carolina, USA", Parmar said.
Convener of the conference Dr Bhavna Mehta said the "development goals like eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, reducing child mortality, promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, declared in 2000 under the UNDP, are to be achieved by 2015".
