MSEDCL engineer arrested for graft

An engineer with Karjat office of the MSEDCL was caught red-handed receiving a bribe of Rs 5000 from a power consumer, ACB officials said today.
According to DSP ACB Thane Division, Datta Karale, engineer Anil B Yadav was trapped last evening accepting the sum at his office from the complainant.
Yadav has been charged under sections 7,13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, Karale said.
Addl SP ACB Shrinivas Ghadge said the complainant approached them after Yadav made repeated bribe demands.
The complainant had dug a borewell in his plot for which he needed an electric connection from the MSEDCL. When he approached Yadav at his Karjat office, the engineer demanded Rs 15,000 bribe following which he paid Rs 13,000 as the first installment.

When the man did not receive the power connection, he again met Yadav, who made a similar demand for another Rs 5,000.
Aggrieved, he lodged a complaint with the Raigadh unit of the ACB, which laid a trap and nabbed the engineer yesterday.
