Altogether 16 students from Assam, Nagaland and Meghalaya got admission into the two-year MSW course in the first batch in 2010 in the institute, a joint venture of Gandhi Ashram and IGNOU.

According Institute sources, out of them 12 appeared for the NET and seven cleared the tough all India test this year. Six received Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) while one was qualified for lecturership.

The Institute came into being as a tri-partite agreement among Chuchuyimlang village council, Gandhi Ashram and IGNOU.

The Ashram, set up by Gandhian social worker Padmashree Natwar Thakkar in 1955 at Chuchuyimlang village, also runs the Regional Institute of e-Learning and Information Technology for bridging the digital divide among the rural youth.
