The Maharashtra Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (MIHMCT), which marks MTDC's foray into hospitality education, has been set up in collaboration with the Central and State Governments at Solapur, around 400km from here.
"The hospitality and tourism industry in the State is expected to grow at a rapid pace between now and 2025. This will be a prime institute in the field of hospitality education in Solapur.
"This decision to foray into hospitality education comes with the intention of bridging the demand-supply gap created within the food service sector, particularly the restaurant and fast food business outlets, which lack skilled manpower," Maharashtra Tourism Minister Jaykumar Jitendrasinh Rawal said after inaugurating the institute.
The Tourism Department is also working on constructing a textile museum offering a glimpse of the bygone era, he said.
"We also plan to build a resort for tourists in Pandharpur (a temple town in Solapur district), which will become operational soon."
MTDC will soon establish a tourist information centre in Solapur district, Western Maharashtra, the Minister added.
