Taking a serious note of busting of an alleged engineering course answer sheets scam in Mumbai University, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today called for a detailed report on the matter.
Police have unearthed a racket of alleged tampering of engineering course answer sheets to increase the scores of students in the varsity and arrested eight persons.
"The governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the University of Mumbai Ch Vidyasagar Rao has taken a serious cognisance of the news reports of malpractices in the engineering examination and has asked (MU) Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to give him a detailed report in the matter," an official in the Governor's office said today.
The alleged kingpin of the racket is a guard of the store room where the answer sheets were kept.
According to police, the employees of MU had sneaked the answer sheets out of the store room located on its Kalina campus in suburban Santacruz.
The sheets were allegedly handed over to the students through agents. The same were put back in the store room after answers were allegedly written on them by the students at home, police said.
