Muharram observed in Uttar Pradesh

Barring a few minor incidents, Muharram was today observed across Uttar Pradesh by and large peacefully, police said.
Stray incidents were reported from Kushinagar and Jaunpur districts following disputes over minor issues but timely intervention by the police prevented any ugly situation, police said here.
In the state capital of Lucknow the Tazia processions were taken out amid tight security arrangements.
Elaborate security arrangements were made throughout the state especially in Lucknow where administration had deployed force at all strategic points for the safe passage of religious processions, officials said.
Over twenty companies of PAC and RAF were deployed in Lucknow at the routes identified for the procession, they added.
Muharram is a day of bereavement, when Muslims give to charity, observe fasts and pray in remembrance of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed who was martyred some 1330 years ago at Karbala in Iraq.
The tenth day of Muharramm, Yaume Ashura is observed to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain during which mourners in black attires march from Imambada of Nazim Sahab in Chowk up to Talkatora Karbala where it finally culminates, here.
