Muharram processions conclude peacefully in Sringar, Leh

Amid tight security, Muharram mourning processions were taken out from various parts in Kashmir and Leh.
The processions on 'Ashoora' or the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram, were taken out from various places in Kashmir as 35,000 mourners passed through various areas of the city.
There was no report of clash or any untoward incident from the valley and Leh region.
'Ashoora' marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain -- grandson of Prophet Muhammad at Karbala nearly 1,400 years ago.
In Srinagar, the procession started from Lal Bazaar area of the city and reached Zadibal Imambargah, officials said.
Authorities had imposed restrictions in six police station areas of the city as a precautionary measure apprehending law and orders problems.

Sectarian clashes were witnessed during Muharram procession in Hawal and Gojwara area of the city last year.
The officials said mourning processions were also taken out at Budgam, Harwan, Panthachowk, Ganderbal and other areas having sizeable Shia population.
While in Leh, which has a sizeable Shia population, mourners braved cold wave to take part in the procession.
Thousands of devotees, right from the morning, assembled at Masjid Sharif and from where the procession started.
The procession passed through the main markets of Leh and concluded at Imam Badha.
At Jama Masjid the religious leaders of both Shia and Sunni community addressed the mourners. They stressed on unity and harmony in the world and appealed people to follow the path of Imam Hussain who had sacrificed his life for the betterment of humankind at Karbala.
