Sudesh Kumar Singh, the mukhiya of Karma panchayat under Daudnagar block was pilion-riding a motorcycle to his native villaeg Dhinoria when the armed assailants hiding near the road shot at the duo from close range injuring them seriously, the sources said.
Singh was rushed to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) where the attending doctors referred him to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), but he died on say, they said.
The mukhiya's unidentified companion was undergoing treatment at the PHC, the sources said.
The motive behind the murder was under probe.
