Describing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "a positive move" for the benefit of the state, Trinamool Congress senior leader Mukul Roy today said it would have been good if it was held earlier.
"A Chief Minister meeting the Prime Minister is very much a custom of our democracy. And the Chief Minister is going to take up the issue of the state's economy including the loan waiver for benefit of the state," the former all-India general secretary of TMC said speaking to a local news channel.
"This is not a matter of the party, but an issue of the state. This is a positive move, but I think it would have been good if it was held earlier," he said.
Talking about TMC joining hands with the Left and others to pass an amendment to a motion on the President's address, Roy said though there were instances of such incidents in the past, he believed it would have been good if the whip was avoided.
"I have voted for the whip. A President's speech is prepared by the Centre and nobody moves an amendment to a motion on his address though there are few instances in the past. But, I don't know whether the leaders (of TMC) who have voted for the whip joining hands with the CPI(M) did it after speaking to the party's seniors leaders or not," he said.
"I think it would have been good if this was not done," Roy added.
